Instructions to authors
 

The Pakistan Veterinary Journal (PVJ), a peer reviewed journal, has been published quarterly by the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan, since 1981. It publishes original research manuscripts, reviews, clinical/extension articles and book reviews on the health and diseases of animals, including studies in comparative medicine. Manuscripts are accepted for publication on the understanding that they have not been published and are not being considered for publication elsewhere. It is assumed that all named authors agree with the contents and form of the paper and are responsible for the validity and originality of data contained therein. Submitted manuscripts are subjected to check for similarity index (by applying appropriate software) with the published papers in different journals and various internet sources. Furthermore, management of the PVJ will not be responsible for the contents of manuscripts published. It is also assumed that the study has been conducted in accordance with the animal welfare laws of the country where the work was undertaken. The PVJ will reject any paper where there is enough reason to believe that animals have been subjected to unnecessary or avoidable pain or distress. The copyright of manuscripts accepted for publication belongs to PVJ. All contributions are subject to editorial revision. Editor's decision will be final and can not be challenged anywhere.

 Manuscripts: Manuscript can be submitted to the Pakistan Veterinary Journal, Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad-38040, Pakistan via post or as an E-mail attachment. Manuscript should be typewritten (double space) using Times New Roman font size 12 on one side of the A4 size paper with 1" margin on right, top and bottom and 1.5" margin on the left side. Papers should be written in the English. The spellings accepted are that of Oxford English Dictionary. All pages should be numbered in the upper right corner and all pages should also be line numbered.

Title page of the manuscript should carry full title, the initials and surname (s) of the author (s), the name and address of the institution (s) where the work was carried out and addresses of co-author (s) if different from that of the major author. The category of the article i.e. original full length article, review article, short communication, clinical/extension article or case report should be clearly indicated on top left corner of the title page. Each author should be identified using a superscript and the corresponding author designated by an asterisk, as follows:

Second page should start with full title and other information of manuscript, without authors name (s) and address (s).

 Abstract: Abstract must not exceed 250 words, should include a brief accounts of the objectives of the study, methodology, salient findings and main conclusions. Sentences such as “the results are discussed”, which merely describe the paper, are not allowed.


Key words: Abstract should be followed by 4-6 key words (indexing terms).

 The main article may be divided into sections like: Introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions, acknowledgments (if any) and references

Short Communications: Short Communications should not exceed two published pages (about 1500 words). Titles like “Introduction” “Materials and Methods” and “Results and Discussion” may be included. Illustrations and Tables may be included when absolutely necessary and as few as possible. The number of references quoted should not exceed 10.

 Clinical Articles or Case Reports: These should include the following sections: Introduction (explaining why the case is being reported, with references where necessary to previous reports), history, clinical examination and postmortem findings of the case if applicable, the diagnosis and differential diagnosis, treatment adopted, discussion and references.

 Abbreviations and Symbols: Each scientific abbreviation must be given in full at its first occurrence in the paper, for example, complement fixations test (CFT). The policy of the journal with respect to units and symbols is that Systems Internationals symbols be used.

 References: Only papers closely related to the author’s work should be included: exhaustive list of references be avoided. References should be cited in the text as: Alkhalaf (2009) or (Alkhalaf, 2009), Khaliq and Rahman (2010) or (Khaliq and Rahman, 2010), Khan et al. (2009) or (Khan et al., 2009). The list of references at the end of paper must be arranged alphabetically and each reference in the list should appear in the following form:

References to books and monographs should include: 1) author(s) or editor(s); 2) year of publication, 3) title, 4) edition, 5) Publisher and place of publication and 6) beginning and final page numbers, as shown below:

Illustrations: Along with hard copy, provide soft copy of all illustrations/graphs prepared with Excel or Adobe Photoshop so that quality or size be adjusted. Each hard copy of illustrations/graphs must bear the author’s name and figure number in pencil on the back. Captions and titles should be typed separately from the illustrations and numbered. Where there is any possible doubt about the orientation of an illustration, the top should be marked with an arrow. The journal will publish illustration/photographs in black/white, color printing of illustrations/photographs can be made on payment basis that can be inquired from Editorial office.

Tables: These should be as few as possible and should contain only essential data. Each table must be typewritten on separate sheet and numbered according to their sequence in the text. The text should include references to all tables. Each table should have a brief and self explanatory title.

 Manuscript Processing Fee Inland: Each manuscript submitted will be levied a processing fee of Rs. 2500 (Non-Refundable) with effect from January 01, 2010. This amount may be paid through bank draft in favor of “Pakistan Veterinary Journal.” Payment through cheque is not accepted. Payment of the processing fee does not guarantee that the paper would be accepted for publication.

Foreign: Foreign author has to pay article processing fee @ US$ 200 with effect from January 01, 2010. These charges can be remitted through Bank Draft in favor of Pakistan Veterinary Journal, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan OR through Swift Telex Transfer with Swift Code: HABBPKKAA to “Pakistan Veterinary Journal”, Account No. 014200121186-01, Habib Bank Ltd., University Of Agriculture Branch, Faisalabad, Pakistan or through Western Union.

 Proofs: Upon satisfactory revision and acceptance the manuscripts are typeset. Proofs are sent to authors for correction through E-mail, which should be sent back with 72 hours. Only minor corrections/changes are possible at this stage.

Reprints: Hard copy of the journal or reprints will not be supplied. Only a web link will be provided to access the published paper. Authors can download pdf file of their published manuscript. If it is deemed necessary to have reprints or journal copy, authors have to place order well in time on extra payment.
