Abstract
This study was executed on 30
pregnant Nili-Ravi buffaloes. Serum was harvested for the estimation of calcium,
magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium and iron in the late pregnancy (at 8th
and 9th month of gestation), at parturition and in the postpartum periods (at
Ist and 2 month postpartum). The concentrations of Ca and P were significantly
(P< 0.05) lower and Mg was significantly (P<0.05) higher at the time of
parturition. The concentrations of Na and K did not show much variation. The
values of Fe also decreased significantly (P<0.05) near parturition (at 9th
month of gestation) and at parturition. No puerperal disorder was observed in
any of the experimental animals.
