Abstract
Theaccumulationofhighconcentrationsofcisplatininthekidneysmaycauses nephrotoxicity.Cisplatin-induced
nephrotoxicityhappensthroughtheinflammationofthe tubules,andapoptosis,necrosis,andvasculardefects.JatiBelanda(Guazumaulmifolia L.)leavecontain variousnatural
compounds andtheethanolicextract of Jati
BelandadecreasedReactive Oxygen Species (ROS) level in diabetic glomerulosclerosis by in
vitro study.Accordingto theauthor’sknowledge,nocomprehensiveworkwasdedicatedtonephroprotectiveeffectof JatiBelandaethanolicextract(EEJB) in cisplatin-induced
nephrotoxicrat.TwodosesofEEJB300mg/kgbw,EEJB600mg/kgbwwereadministered innephrotoxicityrats by
inducing cisplatin8mg/kgbw for three days before
EEJB treatment.ThemeasurementofMDAandCREwere doneusingcolorimetricmethodswhileIFN-γ.IL-1β,andTNF-αexpressionwasdonebyusing immunochemistry(IHC)assay.TheresultsofthisstudyshowedthatEEJB300and600mg/kg bw coulddecreaseMDAandCRElevelalsoIFN-γ.IL-1β,andTNF-αexpression comparedwithpositivecontrol.Thus,ethanolicextractofJatiBelandamaygiveprotective effectinpatientsbeingtreatedwithchemotherapyusingcisplatinbutfurthertoxicityeffectand clinicaltrialsstudiesareneeded.
